“I don’t think anyone’s tuned into nature’s voice, that’s part of the problem.” – Louis Masai

How can cultural forms such as music and art convey a message about coral reefs to a wider audience? Why does science sometimes struggle to reach the public consciousness and how can art be used to bridge this gap?

In trying to answer these questions, Synchronicity Earth commissioned a film featuring soundscape recorder and environmental witness, Bernie Krause, along with London-based artist Louis Masai, to raise awareness of the loss of coral reefs happening around the world. Here, we present a short 2 minute take of the film.

Below we feature three people who, in their own ways, are helping to bring the plight of coral reefs and other species and ecosystems to a wider audience. Louis Masai (artist), Bernie Krause (soundscape ecologist) and Courtney Mattison (artist/sculptor).
